W0429SW.CRUCIFIXBELLARMINE.M   Fascinating squat bodied german (Frechen) brown saltglazed stoneware Bellarmine c1600 with grimacing face and beard but with intriguing cricifix and rose design in the belly cartouche. Overal mid brown speckled two tone (mid brown 2/3rds down body and lower 1/3rd buff colour. Nice subtle drippy aspects one side in particular.  Good strong arched handle with thumb impression to tail, double cordoned lip. wide rough edged wirecut foot. 8 1/4"high, 5 1/2" diameter. This fascinating Bellarmine has now been attributed to the intriguing Rosicrucions Secret Religous Society and has become a rare, important and desirable historical bellarmine.
