W0118SW.BELLARMREST.M   r     German brown saltglaze stoneware bellarmine c1600 with medium detailed face, moustache and beard with large oval cartouche depicting unidentified coat of arms with crown above with various florate elements all around. Narrow wirecut rough edged foot, bulbous baluster body inti short tapering neck topped with multi cordoned lip. Bold arched handle applied with simple tail smoothed in. Overall excellent tigerglaze contrastign dark and medium brown speckling with some touchmarks one to left of cartouche, one tolower rear revealing grey underbody and one long strip down left of neck. Bottle has been fractured and restored but done amazingly well, one of the best i've seen. Possibly neck detached and glued back and joint disguised. Looks amazing on display and even handles well. You need really close inspection to realise the restoration.  Some typical nibbling to edge of foot and one shallow flake off lip edge. Excellent character. 8 1/2"high, 5 5/8"diameter   £445
