T1020SW.MAGGRWESTW.M   ch   Superb huge size saltglaze stoneware Westerwald jug c1720, overall cream body with inscribed decoration and blueglaze infil, and very large roundel  applied to front with  "GR" in large initials, detailed crown above and florate decoration each side with birds above, underneath is a winged cherubic face. Flat base with simple turned foot edge, bulbous elongated globular body with wide mouthed neck and purple manganese coloured reeded cylindrical sides to the neck. just one portion approx 1/3rd circumference of lip chipped away.  Strong handle applied to neck and shoulders, with two holes inserted in top. Other than lip issue, excellent condition. 12 1/2"high, 9"diameter.    £sold
