T0801M.FIRINGGLWINEAMETH.M    Unusual deep amethyst elongated trumpet wine glass freeblown with elongated inverted baluster stem on a very heavy and very wide foot, similarto a firing glass. Ground and polished out pontil, 1/4"thick foot. Full original surface gloss. Could be used in a firing glass capacity but is unusual. It has been suggested it was for stabiltiy in a seafaring situation and that does make sense as the foot is also unusally wide and that would not be needed in a firing capacity. Im suggesting late 18thC from the dark colour of the glass and other aspects. 6 3/8"high, 3 1/2"diameter.   £165
