T0822SW.SILENUSJUG.M  Classic Salt-glazed Silenus jug featuring young satyrs leading a rather intoxicated looking youthful Silenus away on an ass on one side and older satyrs once again leading poor Silenus away on foot on the other. (Silenus was a god of Bacchus' retinue, but also known to be a rather rotund drunkard!) Very well modelled with the figures in 3-D relief almost coming out of the clay. Lovely colouration. Concave base. Probably London, Doulton & Watts or similar area manufacture. 5 1/2"high, 3 1/2"diameter     £sold
