X0322SW.MORTLAKESMTANKARD.M   Pleasing classic Mortlake Pottery tankard of small size c1770 with large central plaque of punch party (Hogarth's Midnight Modern Conversation) surrounded by hunting scene containing bold rounded sprigs of mounted hunter with brimmed hat, running hunter with flintlock,two pairs of hounds, prancing stag, two different trees and other foliate elements. In manufacture loss of stags forlimb and running hunter's flintlock barrel, otherwise excellent. Wide grooved handle arched and applied with well tamped foldback handle base. Footed flat base. Two tone Mid brown speckled upper and warm grey lower. Silver plate rim to lip. Two handle pieces reglued well back in place. All good bold shiny glaze sprigs and delightful small size. 5 1/4"high, 3 11/16"diameter  £325
