R1229SW.SMALLOILBOT.M    Pleasing saltglazed german stoneware handled oil bottle of bellarmine style, c1600. Overall light grey wash with light brown speckling, shallow, wide foot. Small tight handle applied with tail smoothed into body, ovate body pear shape with short wide mouth with tooled rounded lip. Chip/shallow flake off top edge of lip approx 1/2" long, some light glaze loss to shoulder left of handle and top of handle. Kilnmarks and touchmarks as usual. 4 3/8"high, 2 3/4"diameter.  Particularly small and early. £sold
